CIPFA Consultation

CIPFA has issued a consultation document on the role of the Head of Internal Audit in Public Sector Organisations. Consultation remains open until 10 September 2010. Chris Baker will be preparing a collective response on behalf of the IIA. A copy of the IIA response form is here, and the consultation document is here.



IIA Annual Conference

HR Conference

Russell-Cooke Solicitors has announced its conference "HR Challenge and Change: Building Resilience in a Difficult Economic Climate." This will take place on Tuesday 28 September at Holborn, London. This is aimed at Charities, Housing Associations and Third Sector organisations. View the conference invitation.


Phasing Out of Cheques


The target date for the phasing out of the use of cheques as a method of payment is 31 October 2018. This page on the Charity Commission website has information about how to get involved in the consultation on the abolition of cheques.

Charity Commission - CC8

In June 2010 the Charity Commission published its updated CC8 - Internal Financial Controls for Charities document. This can be accessed here, and a self assessment checklist is available here.


Charity Commission - CC26

Also in June 2010, the Charity Commission updated its guidance CC26 - Charities and Risk Management. This is available here.


Charity Commission - Scam Alert

The Charity Commission has been made aware of a scam involving people being telephoned by individuals claiming to represent the Charity Commission. In the phone calls these individuals claim to be from the "debt collection department" of the Commission and they demand payments for various services and advertisements.

Some of the bogus calls have demanded payments of thousands of pounds for various services and advertisements. The Commission has been contacted by a number of people who have received calls of this nature and has already reported this matter to the police.

The Charity Commission would like to be informed where its name is being used for suspected fraudulent purposes.



Reporting of Trustees' Expenses

UK Corporate Governance Code Reforms

The Financial Reporting Council issued a consultation paper on the revised Corporate Governance Code in November 2009. The consultation deadline passed on 5 March 2010 but a press release and associated documents are available here.

Charity Fraud Survey



The Fraud Advisory Panel and Chantrey Vellacott DFK will shortly be writing to sending a postal survey to a number of charities in order to improve the amount of information available about how fraud affects charities. More information is available in this document.

Diploma in Charity Accounting

The Diploma in Charity Accounting (DChA) is awarded by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and is a specialist qualification that acknowledges expertise and experience in charity accounting and finance. This qualification can be obtained through study, but for a short time only there is an opportunity for senior professionals with extensive relevant experience to obtain the qualification through experience only.
